Community Schools

A community school is a school that partners with families and community organizations to provide academic, health, and social and emotional support and services for student success and well-being.

This achievement would not have been possible without the collaboration of over 70 parents, staff, and community members to define our goals. The Community Schools Newsletter features information about our Community Schools grant and spotlights our students, their families, and the staff members who are implementing the grant activities.

Grant Year 1:

Last year, we focused our attention on implementing the goals we established; collaborative leadership and practices were our highest priority as we launched the grant activities.

  • Community Schools Team

22 staff members from Grow Academy Arvin and Grow Academy Shafter.

The team meets monthly to share successes, reflect on efforts, and plan next steps.

  • Community Schools Advisory Council

Advisory Council members are key to our progress in improving our whole-child approach, addressing chronic absenteeism, advancing college and career opportunities, and providing resources through community partnerships.

In addition, we are looking to expand collaborative leadership by including students on our Community Schools Advisory Council - come think together with us about what this could look like! All are welcome to participate in the Advisory Council by committing to attend our meetings. We look forward to your participation in this shared leadership opportunity!

Purpose Statement

The Grow Community Schools team unites educators, families, and community partners to foster a safe, supportive, and thriving school environment where every scholar is empowered to excel.
Our goal is to ensure every student has the opportunities and resources to reach their fullest potential.
